Take your book club on an adventure and read a fiction book about all the ups and downs that come with travel and seeing the world. From jet setting stories that take place in Paris or Italy to buddy road trip fiction right here in the States, these books will inspire a bit of wanderlust for your group.

Travel fiction books fall into two main categories for me:

  1. Travel Books About the Destination: These books are about characters who live in a place other than you do and help you understand a culture other than your own. For example, these fun books set in Ireland or these books set in Scotland. The point of the story is to learn about the destination.
  2. Travel Fiction Books About the Traveling Itself: These books are about the joy of traveling and feature characters going on an adventure. They fly or road trip or go by boat but the book is about their journey and the ups and downs that come along with travel.

I love both kinds of travel fiction and enjoy reading them myself but this list covers that second category and features books about the joy of travel and adventure.

I love to share my own travel adventures on my travel blog, Don’t Just Fly. My family and I have enjoyed international trips to London, Paris, and Ireland in the last couple of years but I also write extensively about our adventures here in the southern United States.

If I were flying out on a vacation, the books on this list might just be what I pack in my carry-on bag for the flight!

Best Fiction Books About Traveling

If you’re looking for a fun book club pick to share with your own book club, one of these travel books could make an excellent pick for January as the new year begins, any time during Spring Break, a summer read, or even a November pick ahead of the busy holiday travel season.
