Summary of The Christmas Fix
She’ll save Christmas just to spite him…
There’s only one thing standing in the way of Cat King saving a small town’s Christmas festival: Grumpy town manager Noah Yates.
Single dad Noah takes his responsibilities seriously. When a late season hurricane turns Merry, Connecticut, into a disaster, he’s left scrambling to pick up the pieces of the town he loves.
At least, until home renovation expert and smoking hot reality TV star Catalina King arrives with a camera crew and a budget big enough to put the town back together again. But Noah doesn’t want a celebrity diva capitalizing on their tragedy or filling his daughter’s head with visions of glitz and glam.
What I Liked
Here’s what I would tell my best friend about the book:
- The Ending: No spoilers, just know I LOVED the ending.
- Festive Fun: The small town Christmas festival that centers the plot is super cute. I totally want to visit Merry.
- Hard Working with High Standards Main Character: Cat King has some major flaws but I warmed up to her extremely quickly. Portrayed as someone with strong ethics, appreciation for fine details, and very hard working, it was so fun watching her fall in love.
- Family Warm and Fuzzies: There are families of all kinds portrayed in the book and the love I felt was from more than just the main romance.
What I Didn’t Like
Every reader needs something different from a book. What I may not have preferred may be your favorite part.
I didn’t realize when I read this book that it is actually a follow-up novel from Mr. Fixer Upper. The Christmas Fix is a stand alone story, you don’t need to read Mr. Fixer Upper first but had I been pre-introduced to the character of Cat I may not have been as surprised by her brash characteristics at the start of the story as I was.
The author doesn’t shy away from some curse words and strong “tell it like it is” conversations with Cat at the story’s start. It felt jarring to me since I thought this would be more like the typical family-friendly Hallmark movie fare.
Once I got over that shock and warmed up to Cat, the language didn’t bother me and I loved her by the end of the book.
How Spicy Is It?
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️: The Christmas Fix rates a Level 4 on my spicy books rating scale. Open door romance that is a main motivation for the characters.
Tropes
This is an enemies to lovers romance between a DIY show television star and a small town mayor.
Overall Score
⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐
I give The Christmas Fix five solid stars. It took me a little while to get into the story but in the end I couldn’t put it down. It successfully made me cry (in a good way), which a book rarely does. It’s a perfect holiday read.
