Check out my review of The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore, a sweet small town romance with plenty of autumn ambiance.

I’m a total sucker for seasonal-themed books with cute covers so when I spotted The Pumpkin Spice Cafe, I couldn’t resist.

Life is more than a bit crazy these days, at home and all across the world. I find one of the greatest things to do for my stress relief is to escape in a good book but my brain feels stretched thin and now is the season of life for a light read.

Is The Pumpkin Spice Cafe going to be known as classic literature? No. But one peek at the cover and I’m sure you could guess that for yourself.

Is it worth your time? If you’re stressed out like me, totally! A light and sweet romance with a little bit of spice and whole lot of pumpkins and coffee might be just what you need to forget your worries for a while.

Summary of The Pumpkin Spice Cafe

When Jeanie’s aunt gifts her the beloved Pumpkin Spice Café in the small town of Dream Harbor, Jeanie jumps at the chance for a fresh start away from her very dull desk job.

Logan is a local farmer who avoids Dream Harbor’s gossip at all costs. But Jeanie’s arrival disrupts Logan’s routine and he wants nothing to do with the irritatingly upbeat new girl, except that he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her.

Will Jeanie’s happy-go-lucky attitude win over the grumpy-but-gorgeous Logan, or has this city girl found the one person in town who won’t fall for her charm, or her pumpkin spice lattes…

What I Liked

Here’s what I would tell my best friend about the book:

  1. Cozy Fall Vibes: This book is a lot like reading a Hallmark Christmas movie if it were set in a small town during pumpkin season instead. Every other sentence seems to reference coffee, fall leaves, the cute farmer and his chickens, and baked goods.
  2. Small Town Characters: This is the first in a series of books by Laurie Gilmore that take place in the fictional town of Dream Harbor. Once you get introduced to the quirky small town cast, the next books will be even more fun.
  3. Slow, Relaxing, Stress-Relieving Read: The plot in this story is not hard to keep up with. It is brain candy at its best. I enjoyed reading a chapter or two each morning with my iced coffee and it always put a smile on my face as I got my day started.

What I Didn’t Like

Every reader needs something different from a book. What I may not have preferred may be your favorite part.

I didn’t expect an action-packed plot but for me the story still dragged a little in the middle. Not a lot actually happens in the book but the ending was totally worth sticking it out.

I started the second book, The Cinnamon Bun Book Store, and I’m already loving it far more than The Pumpkin Spice Cafe. But, I doubt I’d enjoy the second book if I didn’t already know the small town cast that is introduced here.

How Spicy Is It?

🌶️🌶️🌶️: The Pumpkin Spice Cafe rates a Level 3 on my spicy books rating scale. Open door romance that supports the storyline but isn’t the entire point of the book.

Overall Score

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I give The Pumpkin Spice Cafe 4 stars. It was a lovely read for my mornings and ended strong enough to make me pick up the second book in the series.
