The Paradise Problem Book Review
Check out my review of The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren, a smart but spicy romance that blossoms at a lush destination wedding.
I love a good beach read and I confess I’ll enjoy one at any time during the year.
But sometimes the stars align and the most perfect vacation book lands in your lap just as you’re heading off on your annual family adventure.
I read The Paradise Problem while with my family at our beach trip this last summer and it took no time at all before I was completely engrossed in the story.
The powerhouse author team of Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, otherwise known as Christina Lauren, are also behind one of my favorite book club books, The Unhoneymooners.
Curious if this lighthearted romance is for you? Check out my full review below.
Summary of The Paradise Problem
Anna Green thought she was marrying Liam “West” Weston for access to subsidized family housing while at UCLA. She also thought she’d signed divorce papers when the graduation caps were tossed and they both went on their merry ways.
Three years later, Anna is a starving artist living paycheck to paycheck while West is a Stanford professor. He may be one of four heirs to the Weston Foods conglomerate, but he has little interest in working for the heartless corporation his family built from the ground up. He is interested, however, in his one-hundred-million-dollar inheritance. There’s just one catch.
Due to an antiquated clause in his grandfather’s will, Liam won’t see a penny until he’s been happily married for five years. Just when Liam thinks he’s in the home stretch, an over-the-top family wedding means he’ll have to appear with his mysterious spouse, and he has no choice but to turn to the one person he’s afraid to introduce to his one-percenter parents—his unpolished, not-so-ex-wife.
But once they land at the wedding venue, a luxury island resort, Liam’s less worried if the feisty, foul-mouthed, paint-splattered Anna can play the part, and more about whether the toxic world of wealth will corrupt even his surprisingly grounded and openhearted wife. Now he has to ask himself if the price tag on his flimsy cover story is worth risking true love that sprouted from a lie.
What I Liked
Here’s what I would tell my best friend about the book:
- Super Funny Dialog and Characters: I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading this easy page-turning story. Anna’s sense of humor and Liam’s wit are totally my speed.
- Recipe for Romance: Tropical island getaway, a big fancy wedding, and super-steamy chemistry between the main characters, but funny, too?? This is totally my kind of romance.
- Cinderella Vibes: I love the outsider peek inside the world of the uber wealthy. Watching the oh-so-unpolished Anna rush to mask her normal self to fit in with the ridiculously rich characters offered plenty of humor.
- Great Escape: I read this book on vacation and I enjoyed it so much that I found myself sneaking off for reading sessions in the middle of the afternoon.
What I Didn’t Like
Nothing. I truly loved this book and can’t think of anything I didn’t enjoy about it.
How Spicy Is It?
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️: The Paradise Problem rates a Level 4 on my spicy books rating scale. Open door romance that is a predominant part of the plot and motivation for the characters but there’s still a solid plot between those moments.
If you’ve never read a book by Christina Lauren before, I would describe their books as “smart and sexy.” The plot is substantial, but so is the spice.
Overall Score
⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐
I give The Paradise Problem 5 stars. I loved this book and found myself thinking about it between reading sessions and long after I finished it. It was the best vacation read I’ve had in a long time.
