Get a Life Chloe Brown Book Club Kit
Get a Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert is the official September 2022 pick for the Peanut Blossom Book Club for Recovering Readers.
When the kids head back to the classroom each fall, it feels like the start of a new year for me, too.
I might try a new routine for dinner planning or strategy for helping with homework at night.
But it is also an excellent opportunity to take a look at my own self-care routine, set some goals, try some new things myself.
I was drawn to this month’s book pick because the main character, Chloe Brown, decides to make major changes to her own routines in order to “Get a Life.”
Maybe we’ll all find a little fresh inspiration for “grabbing the bull by the horns” this fall!

What is Get a Life Chloe Brown About?
“Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?
- Enjoy a drunken night out.
- Ride a motorcycle.
- Go camping.
- Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
- Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
- And… do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.
Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.
But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior…”
Get a Life Chloe Brown Discussion Questions
I believe the best book club questions to spark a lively discussion in your group help readers make personal connections to the story.
You can read about how to write the best book club questions on your own here, but hopefully these will get you started!
Question 1:
What do you think of Chloe’s life list? If she hadn’t had a near death experience, do you think she’d ever imagine doing these things?
Question 2:
What are some of your own life list goals? Have you already met some? Which ones?
Question 3:
Do you think Chloe and Red are a good match? What makes them great together, what would be reason for them to stay apart?
Question 4:
How did you feel about Chloe’s fibromyalgia? Have you known anyone with this disease? Why do you think the author chose to give her this affliction?
Question 5:
Would you be attracted to a man like Red? Why or why not?
Question 6:
This book is part of a series, would you read another one?
Book Club Party Menu
Chloe comes from a well-to-do family so why not serve an elegant party appetizer spread for the book club menu?
Let your friends build these roast beef crostini with marinated tomatoes.
Homemade tzatziki sauce on the side with fresh crispy veggies would be a perfect complement.
